Technique
- Start in an L-base with the flyer standing at the base’s feet, facing away from the base.
- The base places the feet around the flyer’s sacrum and the flyer leans back, weighting the base’s feet.
- Once the partners can see each other’s faces, the base turns the toes outward and the flyer moves into a straddle-pike, bringing the head towards the base’s waist so the base can catch the flyer in the Hip pockets.
- The flyer bends the knees and brings the feet together, then extends the knees while holding their own ankles.
- The base places the hands around the flyer’s upper arms. Once stable, the base takes one foot at a time out of the hip pockets, then lowers the feet so the flyer balances entirely on the base’s hands.
Form tips
- If this entry is too challenging, work the Straddle bat first as a progression.
- The base adducts the legs to stay in their stack and keep the legs strong.
- The flyer engages the Core so hard that it feels like a Crunch.
- Hand placement varies between pairs, but aim for the lower deltoid and upper biceps of the flyer.
- Communicate constantly so both partners stay on the same page.
